reference .d.ts files without having to add them to the project

Would it be possible to reference d.ts files (like jquery etc) without having to add them physically to the project or have some other mechanism to manage them? 

Also maybe a common location for all files (like nuget now allows to specify a common folder for all nuget packages).

You can do that... The /// <reference /> clauses have no clue whats in the project and what isn't... you can even compile into your output .ts files that aren't in the project.

Also, you can use reference command:

tsc path/to/source.ts --reference path/to/ambien.d.ts
