TypeScript tools not installing. How to diagnose root cause?

Recently installed operating system, Windows 7, freshly installed Visual Studio 2012 with all available updates applied.

Installing TypeScript 1.0.1 the installer runs without any warnings.

Command line:
  • tsc.exe runs from command line;
  • displayed version, tsc -v, is 1.0.1;
  • .ts files can be compiled from command line;
Visual Studio:
  • No icons for .ts files;
  • No syntax highlight for .ts files in the code editor;
  • No "TypeScript" option under Visual Studio\Tools\Options\Text Editor;
I also noticed that no "TypeScript" folder has been created by the installer under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\CommonExtensions\Microsoft".

I even tried to copy this from another machine but VS does not recognize it as a plugin by just copying it.

So... that's what I know about the issue.
Any suggestion on how to analyze what's going on?

Can you try these:
If this does not work, please capture the install logs in %TEMP% that has "typescript" in their names, and email them to me <mhegazy at Microsoft>

Also we've moved to GitHub. Please file new items under the GitHub issue taker.

Hi mhegazy,

Thanks for your reply!
We were about to move to VS 2013 so after struggling on that for almost 2 entire days, we decided that that machine would be the first to use VS 2013.
We installed VS 2013 and, as expected, everything is working fine now!
